So about a week ago, I moved my site from /blog/ to /wordpress/ (it’s not a visible change, the way I have things set up), and some weirdness crept in. So I believe I’ll be exporting everything and rebuilding my site from scratch. I may also take the time to flip over to a new theme, we’ll have to see. So if things seem randomly broken around here, that’s ’cause they are!
200 Posts!
So it seems I’ve made 200 posts. How brilliant. Here’s to many many more!
Speaking of jet planes…
[Ed. note – I wrote this Sunday on the plane back from Charlotte, but forgot to publish it right away.]
Turns out that on an E190, the row of seats directly in front of the emergency row do NOT recline. In fact, they seem to be even more upright, if anything. So, if you like to doze on planes, don’t sit here!
As for my time spent with my parents, had a great time! Spent some time at the stables with my mom, helping a little bit more with their computers, then got in some horseback riding on Saturday. Definitely sore, but it was great; haven’t ridden in years. Thursday & Friday night was spent just hangin’ out watching movies; Thursday we just watched whatever was on, but Friday we rented Body of Lies from the iTunes Store, a great movie!
Saturday night was the best though: my friends Joe, Matt, Greg, Tim, Tom, & John, along with his wife Catherine, came over for dinner. My mom prepared steaks, fettuccine, salad, & shrimp which was delicious, & we popped open a bunch of great wine, courtesy of my father’s always excellent purchases. The last time I had a bunch of these guys together was on my 21st birthday, back in 2004, and it was even better this time! Everyone spilled in regards to their lives recently, which was great, as I haven’t caught up with a few of them in a while. Got a chance to hear my buddy Tom’s jury, as he had a DVD copy of it in his car, & the night was just filled with laughter. Hopefully, I’ll get to see each of them sooner rather than later, especially since a few of them are big on coming up for a Sox game!
Only thing that would have made it better is if Amber could have been there, but she’s kicking ass getting ready to graduate! She’s wicked excited that the end is in sight, & we’re looking for a job for her in Boston. Hopefully in biology/medicine (that’s her field), but with the job market as it is, any decent gig would be good for now. So if any of you silent readers (come on, comment already!) know of an opportunity, please get in touch with me.
Alright, now to try & doze some more in this damn seat.
Leaving on a jet plane
Headed down to Charlotte today for a long weekend with my parents. First time I’ll be seeing both of them since Christmas. Unusually for me, neither of my siblings will be there, so that will be a new experience. Excited to get some riding in with my mom at the stables she works at, as well as see some old friends on Saturday night for some good food & Good Times™!
Also new for me, this is the first time I’ve ever taken any actual vacation time from a job. Being paid to relax rocks!
And so it begins…
Well, I’ve been meaning for a while now to begin posting with more regularity than I have. So, in an effort to do so, I’m dedicating myself to making at least one post a week. Tossing about an ongoing theme, perhaps. Sadly, I can’t talk about one of my passions here, since I work for the Fruit Company™ that makes those products, but there’s plenty of other great things to discuss. Perhaps a musical review of a favorite album, or some such. I’ve certainly got plenty of music to draw from. Please, leave a comment & let me know your thoughts!
And then there were none
Well, it seems I’m now left without any musical groups to participate in. The one person whose group I was performing with, Maria McNeil, has just informed me that she’s going in another direction with the group. Saddened by this, to be sure, but she made it clear it wasn’t anything personal or professional, and that she had enjoyed playing with me over the last few months.
My take? Stylistically she didn’t feel like I was a good fit for her music or her group. Or somebody else really wowed her on bass, perhaps? She didn’t go into that much detail, so I’ll probably never know, but I had a great time playing her music & performing with her & the band. I wish her the best of luck!
Books, movies, music oh my!
I try to maintain a list of my fabulous movie collection, and I’ve just gotten it (mostly) up-to-date. Feel free to check it out here, courtesy of the wonderful Delicious Library cataloging software.
Maria McNeil @ Café Luna
Had a spectacular gig at La Luna Caffé this past Saturday with Maria McNeil. It’s a great little place just on the southern edge of Central Square, right on Mass Ave across from the firehouse. We got started around 9:30pm, played a great set, but after we finished up, one of the employees asked us to keep going. So Maria played a tune of hers solo, then Samad, Aaron & I ended up jamming for another 20-odd minutes. Haven’t done that in ages. Really refreshing to just play, y’know? Really encouraging for us was the tip jar at the end of our set, people were very generous.
One of Aaron’s friends took a few pictures, I’ll see about finding those & posting a few. Hope to see some of you out at my next show, this weekend at Tommy Doyle’s with Tony Brown & the Faithful!

Life Update
So I’ve been posting a lot of links, reblogs, quotes, and media lately, but nothing of a more personal nature. Life seems to have settled into a bit of a routine, which is probably why I haven’t bored anyone who happens to be reading (comment! I love comments!), but I felt the desire to write about my own life.
Work is going well, definitely settled in finally, learning to fulfill some new roles. Forgive me for withholding more detail, but the Fruit Company™ is a bit touchy with blogging.
Musically, things are slow, but it’s still there. Tony Brown & the Faithful (the new name of Tony’s group) has been rehearsing quite a bit, primarily in an effort to build up a repertoire of music. Having only an hour’s worth of music tends to limit the kinds of gigs we can take. Sadly, our drummer JoBeth had to leave the group, but we’re soldiering on. We’ve already begun auditioning new drummers, and hopefully we’ll have somebody on-board soon! As for Maria McNeil, nothing on the horizon at the moment, but keep an eye on the gigs list (or RSS feed if you like) for my upcoming gigs.
Saw Amber this past weekend, which was fantastic, and this coming weekend we’ll be winging out way south to Knoxville, TN, to enjoy my friend John Wiesehan’s wedding. It’s gonna be a ball, really looking forward to it. Interestingly enough, it’ll be the first time we’ve ever gone somewhere & stayed in a hotel together. One of those random little “firsts”, y’know?
More downtime
Apologies for yet more downtime. I’m currently posting this from the Red Sox game at Fenway tonight, which is going well for the Sox! I’ve got a few fun posts and reblogs lined up, so stay tuned!
