[Edit: Made a correction to alter the “real people” statement]
My lovely lady, Amber, has written a marvelous bit on how it feels to be disabled, and it’s truly eye-opening, reminding me that just like everything else, the disabled people you see in movies are not necessarily real people. So go & check the post out: Not a Stereotype @ diabola in musica.

They are real people.
The point is that it’s not fair to demand someone to fit your perceptions of disability. There are many, many stories, but everyone deserves the right to write their own.
I suppose I meant that they are Hollywood creations, their actions decided by a script written for dramatic effect. Even if the film is “based on a true story”, the actual person being depicted is often more than their on-screen version, & many times has to struggle far more than shown in the easily digested “Sunday special”.
